The man behind STATSCORE’s StatsWidgets – meet Bartosz Borycki

STATSCORE’s StatsWidgets have been creating a lot of buzz in the market. What makes them so special? How were they created? How challenging was it to make them so user-friendly and easily customizable? Nobody knows the answers better than Bartosz Borycki, UX Designer at STATSCORE, who created them. Here’s what he told us!

Usefulness of StatsWidgets

– Let me start by congratulating you on your work on the new StatsWidgets. We’ve already seen that the response to them from the market has been very positive. What do you think makes them so special?

– Thank you very much. I think there are several things that testify to the uniqueness of our solution. First, we wanted to build a product that could be available to everyone. From sports fans who run their blogs and want to use specific sports data solutions on them (league standings, team stats or H2H comparisons), to bookmakers who need to provide their users with live coverage from the games and to allow them to compare numbers thanks to which they can bet more consciously, and finally, to sports federations and clubs. STATSCORE’s broad statistical database has allowed us to extract a lot of interesting information that we can offer to our partners.

Secondly, something that we could not find anywhere else, namely a very high level of customization of the look of the widgets. I know that the market is full of various types of companies and everyone would like to stand out with something. Thanks to our solution, everyone can create a widget they want (though, of course, there always are some limitations for technical reasons): widget’s look, font, colours, data that is displayed, tabs, layout etc.

Third, the implementation is very easy. This part keeps many people awake at night, because not everyone has developers who can implement complex solutions on the website. With our widgets, all they need to do is paste the code into the relevant place on the website. That’s it! At the same time, we also have more advanced solutions for ‘bigger’ players in the market, who need event mappings. So, we have managed to reconcile both sides here – B2C and B2B.

– The new sports widgets can be described as extremely user-friendly and responsive. How did you manage to achieve this high level of user experience?

– This, of course, demanded a lot of teamwork. Together with a team of developers and product owners, we worked hard to develop the concept of the product and adapt it to all the needs. How successful have we been? I think this is already being verified by the market. Our main goal was to make the implementation of StatsWidgets as simple as possible and to provide advanced customization while keeping it all easy-to-use for the end-users. In fact, the process of development never ends, and we remain open to any suggestions that could make the product even better!

Customization and design of StatsWidgets

– The ability to freely customize and configure the widgets is certainly one of the key features of this solution. Was it a challenge to design them in such a way?

– I think the biggest challenge here was that we were building a solution over which, at the end of the day, we wouldn’t have full control. The widgets have been built with variable colour schemes for their specific parts. It was quite a challenge to create a flexible scheme that would be coherent to the user, while keeping a limited number of variables. We didn’t want to force users to set 60 colours for each item, that could be a real pain, and I suspect 99% of people would say “no, thanks” at this stage. We currently have six main design variables plus five extra colour settings for wins, draws, losses, away and home teams. Additionally, widgets are made up of components that can also be edited to a certain extent. So we have a lot of options here.

New projects at STATSCORE

– Can you tell us something more about the projects you are currently working on at STATSCORE?

– I am currently working on several things. We keep developing StatsWidgets all the time, doing research, enhancing various features to provide customers with the best possible version of the product, while also designing new widgets that will soon be available in our offer.

We are also working on improving and developing other STATSCORE’s products such as LeagueCenter, as well as working on advanced internal solutions for our scouts. So, we’ve got a lot going on here all the time!

– I know that, apart from designing extremely entertaining solutions at STATSCORE, you also work on your own projects. Can you tell me something more about it?

– Yes, I currently run my own business, mainly designing decorative posters. It started with the production of T-shirts featuring pictures of Silesia, and then it took its current shape as The graphics relate to the architecture of Silesia, mainly Katowice, which is where I live. So it’s all connected with design and visual experience, just in various different ways!

– Thank you!
