Battle for legal sports betting in California rages on

The largest expansion of sports betting in America is on the ballot this November, as the voters in California will decide on a pair of initiatives aiming to legalize it.

The advertising campaigns led by indigenous tribes and online gambling companies have already cost about $400m.

Supporters of legalization claim that the official betting market could help solve problems such as homelessness or mental health crisis. Read more 

Twitch bans some gambling, but keeps betting and fantasy sports

Twitch has announced a policy update which includes a partial gambling ban, including slots, roulette and dice games.

Twitch said in a statement: “While we prohibit sharing links or referral codes to all sites that include slots, roulette or dice games, we’ve seen some people circumvent those rules and expose our community to potential harm.”

The company added it’s not banning sports betting, fantasy sports or poker. Read more

Betsson’s expansion reaches Mexico

Swedish betting operator Betsson has launched its localized sports betting offering in Mexico.

Betsson.mx has been launched to offer online casino, live casino, and localised sports betting. The company will offer a variety of betting options, which include parley, money line, and teaser bets.

“We are overjoyed to have launched in Mexico, the second biggest gaming market in Latin America,” said Andrea Rossi, Commercial Director for Latin America at Betsson Group. Find out more

Ted Lasso’s AFC Richmond featured in FIFA 23

EA Sports has announced that AFC Richmond, the fictional club from the Apple TV+ Ted Lasso series, will be available to gamers across multiple game modes in the upcoming FIFA 23 video game.

“I am truly fortunate, and deeply grateful, to have had many special moments in my career thus far, and I consider this experience among the best of them,” Jason Sudeikis, who plays the coach, said in a statement. “As long-time fans of EA SPORTS FIFA, having Ted Lasso and the whole AFC Richmond squad incorporated into the newest version of the game is truly a dream come true for myself and the rest of the fellas.” Read more

STS honours Polish football legend with a mural

Polish bookmaker STS, the official sponsor of the Polish national football team, has been involved in the creation of a mural in Gliwice depicting Wlodzimierz Lubanski.

168 square meters of space, over 35 litres of paints and 300 pieces of ceramics – all of this contributed to the mural of Włodzimierz Lubański, which was created on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Olympic gold medal won by Polish footballers in Munich. More information [in Polish]
