FIFA teams up with Roblox to launch a new metaverse world

Football’s governing body and one of the top game platforms have signed a multi-year partnership.

The Fifa World virtual environment, which kicks off ahead of the upcoming World Cup, will feature video content, in-game events, rewards options, social spaces and virtual collectables.

“As part of our commitment to grow football and develop ways for new fans to engage with the sport, FIFA’s immersive experience will provide football fans with a hugely exciting new way to interact with friends, celebrate the rich culture and heritage around the world’s biggest sports competition, and demonstrate their creativity and national pride through various features and mechanics,” said FIFA Chief Business Officer, Romy Gai. Online betting in Maryland to launch this year

Retail sportsbooks have been already operating in the state, but online betting had to wait to begin. Now, it seems that it will be ready before the end of 2022.

The Maryland Sports Wagering Application Review Commission has confirmed that online sports betting should start between November 21 and December 5.

In September, the eight retail sportsbooks operating in Maryland took $31.4 million in bets, generating $6.6 million in sports betting revenue.  Read more

Liverpool FC partners up with Meta to create LFC digital apparel

The Reds have announced a collection of digital clothing available in the Meta Avatars Store.

The new feature will allow the club’s fans to buy the Liverpool team gear to customize their digital avatars on Meta platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram.

Drew Crisp, SVP for digital at Liverpool Football Club, said: “We’re incredibly excited to be the first Premier League club with our own Meta Avatars. This is another fantastic opportunity for our global fanbase to digitally engage with Liverpool Football Club and create their own individual club-coloured avatars.” Read more

MLB draws its best average viewership since 2017

The world’s top baseball league drew its best average viewership for the League Divisional Series round (ALDS and NLDS) since 2017.

The 16 games broadcast across Fox, FS1 and TBS averaged 3.4 million viewers, which is up around 20% from last year’s 2.8 million (when 17 games were held, but without the New York Yankees) and the best since 2017, when 17 games averaged 3.6 million (the Series included a Game 5 for both the Guardians – Yankees and Cubs – Nationals ties). EA SPORTS to sponsor UEFA Women’s Football

The video game maker has been announced as a sponsor of the Uefa Women’s Champions League.

The three-year deal with the governing body from 2022-23 to 2024-25 will allow EA SPORTS to launch and promote a new Uefa Women’s Champions League simulation game as a downloadable update to the FIFA 23 franchise.

“We are delighted that EA SPORTS has chosen to become a UEFA Women’s Football partner and we are looking forward to working closely over the coming years as they share our ambition to make the women’s game even stronger and take it to new heights.
