Netflix announces new World Cup 2022 docuseries

Netflix announced that it had commissioned two new sports docuseries, one of which will explore the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

After the successful reception of a number of sports-focused shows, the streaming service has announced two new docuseries. One of them will focus on the World Cup, and the second one will be about Six Nations rugby competition.

Netflix will be collaborating with FIFA+ in producing the as-yet-untitled Qatar World Cup series that will feature exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of all the teams that participated in the event. Read more

Online betting to go live in Massachusetts in early 2023

Online wagering is expected to start in Massachusetts soon, with the state’s gambling commission already issuing the first sports betting licenses.

First sports betting licences have already been issued by the Massachusetts Gambling Commission.

The sportsbooks expected to launch their services in the state include
WynnBet, Caesars, BetMGM, FanDuel, DraftKings, BetRivers, Barstool, FOX Bet, PointsBet. Read more

Betclic CEO demands better regulation of French gambling market

Nicolas Béraud shared his views with the radio station France Info, calling for more action on regulating gaming to counter the threat of illegal gambling.

The executive said that public authorities should control all forms of gambling in similar ways that sports betting is currently regulated.

In Betclic CEO’s view, the French regulator, I l’Autorite Nationale des Jeux, ought to focus on online casino games and the unregulated black market, which he believes is not providing players with adequate protection and is denying tax revenue to public funds. Read more

La Liga’s Tebas says Premier League ‘not financially sustainable’

President of the Spanish La Liga, Javier Tabas, claims English Premier clubs distort the transfer market by spending too much money on players despite making losses.

“What I’m worried about is the Premier League, and I’ve been worried for many years now,” he said. “But now it’s converted into a competition that has losses all year. All clubs lose money. There is no sustainability in the Premier League. The Premier League is not a financially sustainable model.”

Speaking at a conference in Brussels, Tebas also warned clubs and law-makers that the European Super League’s (ESL) supporters are still planning “an attack” on football. Read more

FSG says Boston Red Sox are not for sale

Fenway Sports Group (FSG) chairman Tom Werner has announced the group is not looking to sell its MLB franchise, the Boston Red Sox.

Werner’s words put an end to speculations that the organisation wants to sell the legendary baseball team after exploring the sale of the English football club Liverpool

“Our heart and soul is with the Red Sox,” Werner said at a press conference. “There are absolutely no plans [to sell the Red Sox]. We have a desire to win many more World Series here. As long as we’re healthy, we’re going to be hopefully improving the stewardship of the Red Sox”. Read more
