MLS breaks attendance record with 82,110 fans at LA Derby

In a historic moment for the league, the game between LA Galaxy and LAFC attracted a record-breaking attendance of 82,110 football (soccer) fans.

Known as “El Tráfico,” in reference to the renowned El Clásico rivalry between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, this derby has established itself as one of the fiercest rivalries in the MLS.

This derby match surpassed the previous MLS attendance record set in 2022 when 74,479 spectators gathered at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte to witness Charlotte FC’s inaugural game against the Galaxy. Read more

Channel 4 extends F1 broadcasting deal for UK

Channel 4 has secured a new agreement with Sky Sports,  which will allow the broadcaster to show Formula 1 race highlights in the UK and provide live coverage of the British Grand Prix until the end of the 2026 season.

While Sky Sports holds exclusive rights to live F1 broadcasts on their platform until 2029, Channel 4 has been showcasing race highlights on their free-to-air channel since 2016.

Under this extended deal, Channel 4 will continue to feature highlights of every qualifying session, sprint race, and grand prix. Read more

Swedish betting advertising hits lowest level since 2016

According to the latest findings from Spelinspektionen, the Swedish Gambling Inspectorate, advertising coverage in the Swedish gambling industry has reached its lowest point since 2016.

In 2022, Swedish gambling operators spent approximately SEK 3.4 billion (€280 million) on advertising through traditional media platforms. This figure stands in stark contrast to the SEK 7.3 billion (€620 million) recorded in 2018, a year when Sweden reformed and relaunched its gambling marketplace, imposing regulations on new online services under the Gaming Act 2018. Brazilian commission on betting fraud delayed until August

The Brazilian Parliamentary Investigation Commission (CPI) which is looking into betting fraud and match-fixing scandals in Brazilian sports will be postponed.

The decision was announced by Arthur Lira, the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Lira explained that the CPI investigation has been deprioritized in favor of focusing on fiscal policies within the legislature. Read more

La Liga enters “New Era” in partnership with EA

La Liga has embarked on a transformative journey by teaming up with video game company Electronic Arts (EA), signifying a key brand evolution for the league.

This collaboration is a vital component of La Liga’s global strategy, as EA will play a crucial role in repositioning the league while implementing substantial enhancements in audiovisual and digital broadcasting.

As part of this partnership, the league will now be known as ‘La Liga EA Sports,’ reflecting the integration of EA Sports’ expertise and influence. Furthermore, the second division will be rebranded as ‘La Liga Hypermotion.’ Read more
