French regulator tightens regulations on gambling sponsorships in sports

The Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ), the gambling authority of France, has implemented stricter regulations to address the mounting concerns surrounding sponsorships between French sports and gambling operators.

The aim is to mitigate worries about the potential influence of these commercial partnerships within the sporting domain.

A recent report from a research unit within the ANJ revealed a significant 20% increase in sports sponsorships with legal gambling operators, amounting to €34 million ($36.5 million) in 2022. It is projected to reach €40.7 million ($43.7 million) in 2023. Read more  

Judge orders Diamond Sports Group to pay MLB teams in full amid bankruptcy

Diamond Sports will have to pay out the full value of its contracts with four MLB teams.

Diamond Sports Group (DSG), the owner of 19 Bally Sports regional sports networks currently undergoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy, has been instructed by Judge Chris Lopez to honor their media rights contracts with Major League Baseball teams, namely the Minnesota Twins, Cleveland Guardians, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Texas Rangers. STS Group CEO discusses focus on Polish market

Mateusz Juroszek, the CEO of STS Group, Poland’s leading bookmaker with over 51% market share, has provided insights into the company’s strategic reorganization, emphasizing expansion within the domestic market.

In an interview with SBC, Juroszek expressed confidence in achieving the company’s targets for 2023 and openly discussed the long-term objectives of STS Group beyond the borders of Poland.

“For us, Poland is a very attractive market,” Juroszek said. “We see a possibility for market growth of up to 15% year-on-year in the coming years.” Read more

NHL playoffs maintain strong viewership

The NHL playoffs have garnered impressive viewership, reaching its highest level since 2018 as it enters the Stanley Cup Final. However, the postseason’s overall viewership is expected to decrease slightly as it shifts from ABC to TNT/TBS/truTV for the Final this season.

Across ABC, ESPN, TNT, TBS, and ESPN2, playoff games have averaged 1.13 million viewers, a slight increase compared to the same point last year at 1.12 million viewers. The league experienced record-breaking viewership during the first round and maintained strong figures through two rounds, even with the absence of prominent teams from major markets. Read more
