Major League Baseball makes triumphant return to London

After a hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Major League Baseball (MLB) made a triumphant return to London, reigniting hopes of establishing the London Series as a regular event in Europe.

The Cardinals and the Cubs joined forces to bring the sport back to England’s capital. Despite both teams experiencing challenging seasons, the change of scenery served as a delightful reminder of the joy that baseball brings.

In addition to the London Series, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred revealed that the league is currently in the planning stages for a Paris series in 2025, further expanding the reach of the sport in Europe. Read more

NBA Draft 2023 sets record as the most-watched ever on ESPN

ESPN has declared this year’s NBA Draft as the “most-watched NBA Draft ever on any network.”

The first round, hosted at Brooklyn’s Barclays Centre, garnered an average of 4,928,000 viewers across ESPN and ABC platforms, marking a 24% increase compared to last year’s first-round viewership. The broadcast reached a peak audience of 6,085,000 viewers.

Much of the heightened attention surrounding the 2023 draft can be attributed to the eventual number one overall pick, Victor Wembanyama. Read more

NFL imposes suspensions on players for violating betting regulations

In a recent development, the National Football League (NFL) has handed out suspensions to four players for their involvement in breaching the league’s rules on betting.

The players facing suspensions include Isaiah Rodgers and Rashod Berry from the Indianapolis Colts, who will be sidelined until at least the conclusion of the 2023 season. Additionally, free agent Demetrius Taylor has been banned for the entirety of the upcoming 2023 campaign. Read more

BoyleSports extends sponsorship of Irish Greyhound Derby

BoyleSports and Rásaíocht Con Éireann (RCÉ) / Greyhound Racing Ireland (GRI) have announced a three-year extension to their sponsorship agreement for the Irish Greyhound Derby, taking it up to 2026.

The Derby will kick off on July 28 at Shelbourne Park. The competition will progress on a weekly basis, leading to the Final on September 2. The latter stages of the event will be featured on both Racing Post Greyhound TV and terrestrial TV. Read more

Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah to host 2023 Club World Cup in December

FIFA has officially revealed that the 2023 Club World Cup will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, later this year.

The decision to award the hosting rights to the Middle East nation was made in February, with the announcement of the specific city being delayed until now.

After a thorough inspection of Jeddah’s facilities, FIFA has given its stamp of approval for all the tournament matches to be played in the city. This confirmation solidifies Jeddah’s role as the host city, paving the way for an exciting competition that will showcase top club teams from around the world. Read more
