UX & Web Design Master Course: Strategy, Design, Development – Udemy – Review

There is nothing worst then staying in one place. When you stay in one place for too long, you are in fact going backwards. Self development is one of the most important things in life. It’s important to have the chance for development, not only for yourself, but also for the company you work for.

A short time ago I found Udemy.com. This is a place on the WEB, where you can find lots of courses. Some of them are for free, some at normal prices, but a lot of them have ‘special discounted prices’ for most of the time.

WHAT I FOUND?

I found a Joe Natoli course : ‘UX & Web Design Master Course: Strategy, Design, Development. This course includes knowledge about UX (understanding principles, building strategy of content and information architecture for your website), designs for a better user experience, building better content and the basics of coding (HTML, CSS, WordPress). Joe teaches from the ground up, so it’s a good starting place for anyone.

WHAT DID I GET?

As a part of the course, Joe Natoli shares his ‘bonus’ – 30 page UX Guidebook that includes great exercises and activities. It’s a nice walk through for beginners when they want to start a new project.  The guidebook takes you from ‘Why are we doing this’ through to ‘Identifying Business Goals’, ‘Generating Requirements’ to ‘Planning for User Testing’

The whole course is divided into 16 sections and has 187 video presentations that in total last for almost 24 hours. After completing them all you receive your Certificate of Completion.

REVIEW

For me this course was very valuable. It’s very well organized and teaches how to actually apply principles and strategy of abstract concepts to real websites.

Advantages:

  • Joe Natoli is a very good instructor with huge experience
  • Useful knowledge
  • Course is well organized
  • Great walk through for beginners
  • Merge UX, design, development

Disadvantage:

  • Not for web developers. It’s a long way from the highest level of coding,
  • The design of example projects did not look great to me, and although this was not what I was looking for in this course, it could have been better 😉 ,
  • There could have been more practical examples of user testing.

It’s a nice feeling that in my working life, I’m not just a small cogwheel in a big structure. It’s great to have the opportunity to look after my self development with a company that provides all the tools I need to develop my skills.
