California voters to decide in 2022 whether to legalize sports betting

Will Californians soon be able to legally bet on Lakers, Clippers, Dodgets or Rams?

A measure to approve sports betting in California has qualified for the state’s November 2022 ballot. The initiative would legalize sports betting at tribal casinos and in-person sportsbooks at privately operated racetracks.

“This is an important step toward giving Californians the opportunity to participate in sports wagering while also establishing safeguards and protections against underage gambling,” said Mark Macarro, tribal chairman of the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians, one of the eighteen tribes that are part of the Coalition to Authorize Regulated Sports Wagering, which is behind the ballot measure.
