‘It is brilliantly executed’ – Billy Beane, the Moneyball guru who pioneered the use of sabermetrics in baseball, praises Liverpool use of statistics in their transfer strategy.

The Reds’ clever use of data analysis to drive transfer decisions was been backed by the man who mastered such an approach in baseball.

“At Liverpool, a great example is Salah. They spent about £40m on him from Italy, which is a lot of money. At the time, people thought that was too much but as it turned out, he was worth far more than they paid for him” – Beane said. “To me, that’s a great example of exploiting a data advantage – spending a lot of money, but getting far more value out of it than what people expect” – he added.

Will sports betting help Massachusetts survive the crisis?

A Boston Red Sox executive thinks that legalizing mobile sports betting is a “low-hanging fruit” that could help the state’s finances in these difficult times. And the state’s Governor seems to agree.

Governor Charlie Baker says he agrees that revenues from legal sports betting could help Massachusetts recover from the crisis caused by the pandemic.

Legal sports betting is making illegal wagers unpopular

The spread of legal betting across the U.S. is helping curb illegal wagers, according to new research from the American Gaming Association.

The most crucial factors in a sports bettors moving from unregulated bookies to legal platforms were confidence in having winning bets paid (25%),  awareness of legal options (%), and a desire to use a regulated book (19%). Read more
