Russian and Belarusian tennis players barred from Wimbledon

The All England Club has announced that Russian and Belarusian players will not be allowed to take part in this year’s grand slam following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“Given the profile of The Championships in the United Kingdom and around the world, it is our responsibility to play our part in the widespread efforts of Government, industry, sporting and creative institutions to limit Russia’s global influence through the strongest means possible,”  the organizers said in a statement.

The ban will prevent players such as world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev and No. 8 Andrey Rublev (both from Russia) from competing in the men’s tournament, as well Aryna Sabalenka and Victoria Azarenka (both from Belarus) from participating in women’s competition. Read more

DAZN Group to launch a sports betting product

A leading streaming business DAZN has partnered with Pragmatic Group to launch a new betting product.

A new business headquartered in Gibraltar will launch and operate a new betting service under the DAZN BET brand.

DAZN said that the new sports betting business would “develop a fun, convenient, and integrated experience for casual bettors to enjoy alongside DAZN’s live sports streaming”, as part of what it called “the trend towards recreational in-play betting.” Read more

FIFA launches a digital platform to stream thousands of matches annually

FIFA+, the new service launched by football’s governing body, provides live streaming from around the globe, an extensive archive of international football, and much more. 

More than 29,000 men’s matches and over 11,000 women’s games will be streamed on FIFA+ in 2022, totalling over 40,000 matches. The platform is free to access.

Will Serena Williams and Lewis Hamilton buy Chelsea?

A seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton and twenty-three-time grand slam champion Serena Williams have joined the bid to take over Chelsea Football Club.

The two sports stars have joined Martin Broughton’s consortium’s bid to buy Premier League club Chelsea, according to CNN Sport. Broughton’s consortium includes World Athletics President Sebastian Coe, as well as Josh Harris and David Blitzer, who own sports teams including the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers. Read more

MLS All-Stars to face top players from Liga MX

Major League Soccer has announced that the 2022 MLS All-Star Game will feature the league’s All-Star team taking on a team of All-Stars from Mexico’s top football league, Liga MX.

For the second year in a row, the MLS All-Star Game will be played against the Liga MX.
