Court of Arbitration for Sport rejects Russia’s World Cup ban appeal

The Court has refused to suspend FIFA’s ban on Russia ahead of the World Cup qualifying playoffs.

“The challenged decision remains in force and all Russian teams and clubs continue to be suspended from participation in FIFA competitions. The CAS arbitration proceedings continue” the court said in a statement.

The Football Federation of Russia had appealed against the suspension, hoping to be allowed to face Poland in a World Cup playoff that was due to be played on March 24. Read more

Parimatch limits marketing activity with Chelsea

Ukrainian-based Parimatch Tech has decided to limit its marketing arrangements with Chelsea FC as part of its sponsorship arrangement with the club, as the team’s owner Roman Abramovic is sanctioned by the UK government.

Earlier reports had suggested that Parimatch, which was founded in Ukraine, would suspend its deal with Chelsea.

“Parimatch is not terminating or suspending the contract with Chelsea FC. We are limiting our joint marketing and brand campaigns to focus all our efforts on helping Ukraine.” Parimatch Tech told iGB.

“All of our current activity in the public domain is aimed at raising awareness about the war. And we intend to use the resources at hand, including the club’s LED display systems, to promote our volunteering and donation activities.” Read more

Real Madrid, PSG, and Milan cut ties with Russia-based Fonbet

Three clubs have decided to suspend their respective partnership deals with Russian betting company Fonbet.

A PSG spokesperson told the radio station France Bleu Paris: “The events going on at the moment have made us reconsider our ties. We have mutually agreed with our regional partner Fonbet to suspend our agreement until the end of the season.” Read more

NCAA women’s tournament to emphasize gender equity

What is the destination of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament? The new direction focuses on emphasis on gender equity and the college athlete experience.

“I want it to be the mega women’s basketball event in the world, a gathering place for stakeholders and a place to celebrate the game,” says Lynn Holzman, the NCAA’s vice president of women’s basketball. “I want our championship to be where the world looks to see this high caliber of women’s basketball.” Read more

Discovery reports record Beijing 2022 viewership


US-based global media company Discovery has reported record viewership and engagement on its digital platforms across Europe for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

More than 156 million people visited Discovery’s platforms as over one billion streaming minutes were consumed across the event – 19 times more than PyeongChang 2018. Read more
