19 US states set to vote on sports betting legalization

2021 can be a pivotal year for the betting industry in the United States. Nineteen states, including New York and Texas, will be deciding on legalizing betting this year.

The decisions will be made either by voter referendum or through state legislature statute.

“This is a big year. We’ve got about 20 states set to vote on legalization. What percentage of those decide yes – that’ll swing things either in a positive or negative direction for us.” – says DraftKings CEO Jason Robins. Read more

League of Ireland clubs allowed to partner with betting companies

The ban on betting sponsorships introduced by The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) will not include League of Ireland clubs.

The issue of the involvement of bookmakers in Irish sport has lately been a subject of nationwide debate, as two of the country’s leading sporting authorities – the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and Gaelic Players Association (GPA) – have called for banning partnerships between sports clubs and betting companies.

The Football Association’s decision means that clubs competing in the League of Ireland will be allowed to enter sponsorship deals with betting operators. Read more

NHL comes back to ESPN after 16 years

A historic seven-year deal, estimated to be worth more than $2.8bn, was made between ESPN and the National Hockey League.

NHL games will return to ESPN starting with the 2021-22 season.

As Covid-19 kept spreading at sports venues all over the United States,  young sportsmen have been confronted with difficult choices.

The disease forced players, their parents, coaches and officials to weigh concerns about transmitting the virus against the social, emotional and financial benefits of competition.

China offered vaccines to Tokyo and Beijing Olympic athletes

The Chinese Olympic Committee has offered vaccines that could be used for athletes at this year’s Tokyo Olympics and the Beijing Winter Games in 2022.

“The IOC has received a kind offer from the Chinese Olympic Committee, hosts of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, to make additional vaccine doses available to participants in both editions of the Games,”  said the IOC president Thomas Bach. Read more
