New York approves mobile sports betting

The state has officially approved a budget for its fiscal year 2022, which will allow for legal online betting for the first time.

State leaders expect that the move can yield $500 million of annual tax revenue.

New York will choose at least two companies through a competitive bidding process to operate online wagering. “We want to do sports betting the way the state runs the lottery where the state gets the revenues. Many states have done sports betting but they basically allow casinos to run their own gambling operations. That makes a lot of money for casinos but it makes minimal money for the state,” Governor Andrew Cuomo said in January about the plan.

Will the US boycott Beijing Olympics?

The American State Department denied that it was considering a joint boycott alongside allies of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

“Our position on the 2022 Olympics has not changed. We have not discussed and are not discussing any joint boycott with allies and partners,” a State Department official said.

LaLiga expands partnership with Twitch

The Basque derby, on April 4, between Real Sociedad and Athletic Club was the first Spanish top-flight football game broadcast live on Twitch.

The league has expanded its collaboration with the platform by engaging social media influencers to provide alternative match commentaries to fans across the globe.  The viewers were also able to interact through Twitch’s chat box.  Read more 

Online gambler wins legal fight against Betfred to claim £1.7m prize

Online casino player, Andrew Green, felt “robbed” when gambling company Betfred told him it would not pay out, following his blackjack win in 2018 because of a software glitch.

The gambler will now get his £1,722,923.54 winnings, plus interest, after having won a court case. Betfred has said it will not appeal against the judgment. Read more
