Chile’s online betting bill slowed down due to tax framework

Progress on Chile’s online gambling legislation seems to have been stalled because of political issues related to tax concerns.

At the start o 2002, Chile’s Ministry of Finance agreed that the country’s Gambling Bill would be voted on by the end of the year. According to the authorities, the new legislation would generate $55m in taxes per year and help shut down a black market of 900 unlicensed websites.

However, the progress in works on the Bill was stalled when the Economic Commission for Chile’s Chamber of Deputies declared that a review was necessary on proposed taxes. Read more

Women’s EURO 2022 smashes attendance and viewing records

87,192 fans watched England’s women beat Germany 2-1 at Wembley Stadium, which is the new all-time attendance record for a EURO final tournament match, including men’s and women’s games.

Television records were shattered too. The BBC posted peak viewing figures of 17.4 million for the game, while 17.9 million people tuned in on German television – beating previous records for TV viewership of women’s football in both countries. Read more

LaLiga goes OTT in China with all games from top two tiers

LaLiga has confirmed that it’s launching a new six-year partnership with Streamline Media Technology to offer coverage of all 380 LaLiga matches in China.

The service, called LaLiga Plus will provide live coverage of all 380 matches from the top-tier LaLiga Santander, as well as all 462 regular-season and play-off matches from the second-tier LaLiga SmartBank.

“LaLiga Plus is the core of our strategy in China for the next years,” said Sergi Torrents, managing director of the league in China. “This is a first step of a complete ecosystem we are building to provide new and unique experiences and new products to fans. Together with Streamline, we are investing in technology, fan experience and increasing value for our brand and business.” Read more 

Betting in Massachusetts set to go live by the end of 2022

The state legislature has agreed to allow licensed sportsbooks to offer wagering on professional and amateur competitions.

The bill will now need to be signed by Gov. Charlie Baker, who had previously expressed support for sports betting legalization.

“I am proud to announce that the Sports Betting Conference Committee has reached an agreement on legislation that will legalize wagering on professional and college sports in Massachusetts, bringing the immense economic benefits of a legal sports betting industry to [Massachusetts],” Ron Mariano, speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, tweeted. Qualcomm becomes Manchester United’s official global partner

Manchester United has announced a multi-year strategic partnership with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

Under the deal, the club will promote Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon brand, which powers 5G connectivity in many smartphones, PCs and gaming devices, connected cars and smart wearable devices. Read more
