No more betting sponsorship in English football?

Half of English Premier League clubs and 17 of 24 Championship clubs are currently sponsored by betting firms. However, betting sponsorship on shirts should soon be banned in line with a recommendation of a Select Committee in the House of Lords.

The committee’s recommendations state that: “There should be no gambling advertising in or near any sports grounds or sports venues, including sports programmes.” However, the restrictions “should not take effect for clubs below the Premier League before 2023. A similar flexibility should be allowed in the case of other sports”.

31 MLB players positive for COVID-19

While the NBA, MLS and WNBA are trying to restart their seasons in bubbles in Florida, the Major League of Baseball is the only American league attempting a resumption of play outside an enclosed area.

According to a report from Grand View Research, global esports market is forecast to reach US$6.82bn by 2027.

Strong growth of long-term sponsorship and the advent of 5G internet are among the factors expected to boost the sector over most of the next decade.
