BGC: baseless allegation against betting industry marring World Cup

The World Cup has “sparked a torrent of baseless allegations against those who bet and betting operators” – says Brigid Simmonds OBE the Chairman of the UK’s Betting and Gaming Council.

According to the regulator’s data, the UK’s problem gambling rate currently stands at 0.2%, while overall gambling participation remains below pre-pandemic levels – although the UKGC added that wagering levels are increasing among younger people. Read more

Viaplay signs IHF deal in 10 European countries

The Swedish-based OTT service has secured exclusive streaming rights to International Handball Federation competitions in ten European countries until 2031.

The agreement applies to Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Poland, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and the UK.

“This milestone deal ensures Viaplay will deliver the world’s best handball to many of the sport’s biggest markets throughout this decade and beyond,” said Peter Nørrelund, chief sports officer at Viaplay. Read more

NBA expands group of investors with sovereign wealth funds

The league’s owners have voted to allow franchises to accept investments from endowments, sovereign wealth, and pension funds, a league source confirmed to The Athletic.

The National Basketball Association has decided that sovereign wealth funds can now buy a share of any of its teams. Pension funds and university endowments will also be allowed to buy shares in NBA franchises. Read more

Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) has signed its latest commercial partner, Starcasino Group, a move that expands its presence in the Spanish iGaming market.

Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) has signed a partnership with Starcasino Group for its leading platform and sportsbook. The deal is the 14th agreement in operation for GiG technology in Spain. Read more

French regulator rejects Canal+ and BeIN appeal over Ligue 1 rights

French Competition Authority has rejected appeals from Canal+ and BeIN Sports over the process of awarding Ligue 1’s domestic football rights to Amazon ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Both broadcasters took their case to the Autorité de la Concurrence (AC) claiming that France’s Professional Football League (LFP) had abused its dominant position when granting Amazon the rights at a heavily reduced price. Read more

4) Your personal data will be retained for the duration of the Product development term but for no less than the retention period required under the law.
5) Your personal data will not be subject to automated decision-making or profiling.
6) You have the right to access the personal data held about you and to have your data rectified or erased or to restrict or to object to the processing as well as the right to data portability. If your personal data is processed under Article 6.1(a) of the GDPR (i.e. processed on the basis of the consent you have given to the processing), you may withdraw your consent at any time without any impact on the lawfulness of the processing carried out before your consent was withdrawn.
