STATSCORE’e eye on handball part 7: PGNiG Superliga

No surprises for the teams at the bottom of the table and the little differences that matter – this is how we can sum up the 7-th matchday of the season for the PGNiG Superliga, for whom STATSCORE, is the official statistical partner. Off we go!

Arka Gdynia – Orlen Wisła Płock 27:31 (12:14)

Before this match Arka fans knew that it would be almost impossible to get points against Orlen Wisła Płock, a team that’s one of the favorites to win this season’s PGNIG’S Superliga.

Surprisingly, Arka stood up well to their rivals and lost by only 4 goals. It seems that Płock is facing a bit of a crisis (last week they lost against Górnik Zabrze, now they were struggling to beat a team rated as a league outsider).

The away team trio of – Lovro Mihić, Michał Daszek and Ziga Mlakar scored 19 out of the teams 31 goals. Arka is still the only team without a point in the league table. How much longer will they continue without a single point? Guys?

VIVE Kielce – MMTS Kwidzyn 36:27 (17:16)

Vive Kielce won another match in the league. This time they beat MMTS Kwidzyn. After the first 30 minutes, Kwidzyn players looked like they were close to causing a sensation, but nothing could be further from the truth.

A much better second half for Talant Dujszebajev’s team, saw them seal the win. VIVE’s goalkeeper – Vladimir Cupara ended the game with a save rate of 42 %. Arkadiusz Moryto also played another fantastic match (8 goals from 8 throws, left him with an 100% average).

Gwardia Opole – MKS Kalisz 30:28 (17:15)

Gwardia Opole won their first home, league match this season. After losing against Vive Kielce, Piotrkowianin Piotrków Trybunalski and Orlen Wisła Płock, they emerged victorious from this clash against MKS Kalisz.

Despite 14 turnovers, Gwardia won 30:28. MKS Kalisz had 5 more throws than their rivals, but it was not enough to score points. They missed both 7-meter throws they had in this match, and after 7 rounds they are placed in 11th position.

Pogoń Szczecin – Piotrkowianin Piotrków Trybunalski 27:29 (13:17)

Until this weekend, Piotrkowianin Piotrków Trybunalski, had lost all away league matches against Pogoń Szczecin. Finally! This time Dmytro Zinchuk’s team returned home with a valuable 2 points. It’s worth mentioning all of the 8 points they have scored this season are from away matches. Don’t you guys like to play at home?

It was not the best match for Pogoń’s Paweł Krupa. It doesn’t matter that he was the team’s top scorer – his efficiency was dramatic (6/15=40%)

Chrobry Głogów – Zagłębie Lubin 23:19 (15:9)

The Lower Silesian Voivodeship’s local derby disappointed. Only 42 goals (only once this season has there been a match with a lower number of goals. Add to this 14, 2-minute suspensions and almost 80 fouls).

Three goalkeepers – Lubin’s Patryk Małecki and Jakub Skrzyniarz and Głogów’s Rafał Stachera finished the match with an efficiency rating of over 30% and that’s really rare.

Both teams have 3 wins and 4 losses this season and are placed in the middle of league table.

Wybrzeże Gdańsk – Stal Mielec 29:23 (13:13)

The second half decided the result in the match between, Wybrzeże Gdańsk and Stal Mielec. The seaside team gave no chances away and beat Stal Mielec 29:23

Both teams had a very low 9-meter throw efficiency (22%) but Wybrzeże players, were much better from 6 meters – 75% against Stal’s 56 %.

Stal Mielec is the second worst team in the league in terms of the number of goals scored this season (175 goals in 7 matches – only Pogoń Szczecin has scored less – 173).

Górnik Zabrze – Azoty Puławy 28:25 (15:13)

7th round hit! The team, who have lost only to Vive Kielce, and won their last match against Orlen Wisła Płock vs The team that have won all of their matches this season, and have the best defence in league.

Górnik Zabrze were better than Azoty-Puławy and that’s why Vive Kielce is now the only unbeaten team in the PGNIG Superliga.

Both teams played really well and that’s why it was the little details that decided who came out on top. Górnik ended the match with 2 saved throws more, 2 turnovers less and 4 throws on target more – this was enough to secure the win for the home team.
