The last but one match of this year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup Poland 2019 is in front of us! Italy and Ecuador will fight for third place and the bronze medals. It’s very hard to predict which team is favourite for this match. These teams played against each other in the group stage – then the team from Europe won 1:0.
The Italian team has won four matches (against Mexico and Ecuador in the group stage and against Poland and Mali in the knockout stages). They have also drawn against Japan. The only match they lost was the game against Ukraine (0:1).
During the six matches they scored 8 goals and conceded only four, which means their defence is really strong (just once, against Mali did they concede more than one goal). Their best striker – Andrea Pinamonti (4 goals) is still fighting for second place in the top scorers Classification.
This a big chance for Squadra Azzurra to finish on the World U-20 Championship podium for the second time in a row.
Their South American opponents have won only three of the six matches they’ve played ( against USA, Uruguay and Mexico) but it’s enough for them to be in the top 4. The two matches they lost (against Italy and Soth Korea) were very tight and they could have easily ended up differently.
Ecuador has never played in the semifinals in a U-20 WC before – it’s their first chance to get a bronze medal. What is really interesting, they play really collaboratively – only one player scored more than a single goal in their 6 matches at this tournament (Gonzalo Plata).
