FIFA U-20 World Cup pre-match analysis – Day 11

FIFA U-20 WORLD CUP 1/8 FINALS – DAY 2

Ukraine U-20 – Panama U-20

Venue: Tychy Stadium, Tychy

This evening Ukraine, unbeaten in the group stage of these championships will have the chance to advance to the quarterfinals of a FIFA U-20 World Cup for the first time in their history. Two wins (against USA and Qatar) and a draw (against Nigeria) ensured the European team took first place in group D. If Ukraine can maintain the good form they have shown in previous matches, they can achieve a lot in Poland.

Panama has advanced to the knockout stages theoretically, as the weakest team (4th place in the ranking of teams that came third place in their groups). In their first game they drew with Mali, then lost to France and in the last match, they defeated Saudi Arabia, ensuring they advanced to the next phase of these championships. If they dream of winning the match against Ukraine, they have to play a lot better than they did in the group matches.

STATSCORE prediction: Ukraine – Panama: 1

Uruguay U-20 – Ecuador U-20

Venue: Lublin Stadium, Lublin

This next match will be a meeting of two teams who have already met twice this year (in the South American U-20 Championships, that ended in two wins for  Uruguay). La Celestes have won all their matches at this tournament in Poland so far and scored at least two goals in each of them. In total, the team has scored 7 goals and conceded only one, which makes them the favorite in this match against Ecuador.

Ecuador qualified for the knockout stages via 3rd place in the group. They beat Mexico, drew with Japan and lost against Italy.  We expect that Ecuador will show us some better football than in their previously disappointing matches. They have scored only 2 goals in three games and this is the lowest number of any team playing in the last 16 round of matches.

STATSCORE prediction: Uruguay – Ecuador: 1

Senegal U-20 – Nigeria U-20

Venue: Widzew Lodz Stadium, Łódź

Senegal is the only team that has not conceded a goal at the U-20 World Cup in Poland. After defeating Tahiti, Colombia and a draw with the hosts of the tournament – Poland, Senegal finished first in the group and are slight favorites in this game against Nigeria.

Nigeria took third place in their group. In the first game, they beat Qatar, then they were defeated by the USA and in the last match, they drew with the group winners – Ukraine. It seems that both teams are very equal, so Nigeria has a chance to come out on top.

STATSCORE prediction: Senegal – Nigeria: 1 (after extra-time/penalties)
